After 5+ years of cranking out solidly original and good music, the only place on the dial worth listening to in the Los Angeles area has officially left the airwaves.
Indie 103.1 can still be found online here, but it's just not the same if I can't cruise around in my Toyota jamming to the grooves that never ceased to surprise me.
The Clash followed by The Ting Tings? Great. Cut Copy and Nick Cave together? An obtuse pairing, but listenable.
Goodbye Sat Bisla who brought me the Passport Approved show every Saturday morning after my aerobics class. I will miss your offerings from around the globe.
Sayonara Darren Revell, who soothed me on my way home from a long day at school with your shoegaze/ethereal/dream pop show from 10 p.m. on. Where else am I gonna hear the Cocteau Twins, vintage Ride plus some Bauhaus for good measure?
Most of all, though, I will miss the legendary Steve Jones (yes, that Sex Pistols guy), who took over the airwaves every weekday from 12 bells until 2 p.m. His shows were eclectic, thoughtful and never corporate. God save the queen, indeed.
