The countdown begins

Ha-ha-hotter than jalapeños Christian Bale returns to the screen tomorrow, reprising his role in the eponymous “Dark Knight.” Yeah, yeah, Heath Ledger and all that…Bale is who I’m paying my money to see. Got my tickets for an IMAX showing this Sunday morning.

For those who pooh-pooh the recent spate of comic book character themed films, director Christopher Nolan’s take on them are not to be missed. I saw his first foray into the genre, “Batman Begins” back in 2005. It was a simple way to escape the summer heat when I was living in Yokohama, and I was pleasantly surprised by his offering of the caped-crusader’s origins.

Have since seen a few of his other films:

Memento – Thoroughly entertaining and confusing
Insomnia – The nightmarishly beautiful landscape IS the main character
Following – Another flick with an “I gotta see that again,” twist of an ending
The Prestige – Eh. Well, but Mr. Bale is in this one, too, so it’s not all that bad

Today’s obsession: That cape. Those ears. Those gadgets! Three more days.
