Just Wrong

When I spied this Japanese snack at my local 99 Ranch Market, I was in such disbelief, I had to buy it. The name, by American pc-speech standards, is just wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

In defense of the Japanese, I'm hoping the moniker is a 略 (りゃく), or abbreviation, that they are very fond of when smashing two words together.

Just two examples out of many: パソコン, or "paso-con," short for personal computer. Another I encountered just this year after my eight years of 日本語の勉強 was "あけおめ." This is a shortened version of the traditional New Year's greeting "Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu." How did I ever miss that one?!

I'm guessing that this "Gookie" is a blend of good + cookie?
What do you think?
