Fruity Fiction

The first time I read Banana Yoshimoto's contemporary fiction back in 2002 I was hooked. NP, from 1995, was a quick read and an involving tale. It chronicles the summer of an intricate friendship developing among four strangers (although three of them are siblings) drawn together by a mysterious manuscript.

I'm only half way through Yoshimoto's catalogue, and that makes me happy. There's plenty more waiting for me to enjoy. After this book, it's a toss-up which Japanese author I'll hit next.

Another Mishima work is on the list, as well as my first taste of Ryu Murakami. I've read almost all the other (Haruki) Murakami novels, which are just great and always blow my mind. I gather that Ryu's fiction is even wackier with a bit of a twisted edge.

楽しみに!
