Product Review: Maybelline Define-A-Lash

Trying out a new beauty product is like going on a first date. You never know what to expect, where you're going to end up, or how the person/product is going to perform.

I'm not fond of change. I'm still using the same powder from when I got my makeup done by Clinique for my junior prom. How's that for a creature of habit?

I threw all caution to the wind the other day, though, while on a shopping binge at Target. My regular, beloved mascara that I swear by--Clinique's Naturally Glossy--is just out of my financial reach these days. Hence, my venture into the territory of non-makeup counter makeup.

Maybelline believes this product is so good, that it warranted the prized spot on its website splash page. Does it deliver?

I uncapped the wand and was surprised at the effort it took to distract the device from its holder. Strike one. The brush looked sufficiently coated with just enough mascara to give my lashes coverage, but ended up making them look gloopy. Strike two. After a long day's wearing, it took several swipes of eye makeup remover to get the darn stuff off, tugging at my delicate crow's feet that do not need any more prodding than necessary. Strike three.

So, why did I buy this product? Well, for the free eyeliner it came with, of course! Who doesn't need another shade of brown to add to her collection of 10 other subtly different shades of brown eyeliner?

By the way, the Maybelline site is a nightmare to navigate. Enough with the Flash animation already!

Today's obsession: Hoping that my sore throat is not a sign of an impending cold that could possibly ruin my gorgeous three-day Labor Day weekend.
