Ignorance

Overheard an interesting conversation while changing in the gym locker room the other day. Broadcasting on the television in said locker room was coverage of the Olympics. An American athlete was being interviewed, and she was lamenting the gastrointestinal problems she'd been having for the past few days, which possibly affected her performance.
Portly Woman: "No wonder she feels bad. I'd feel sick, too after eating all those bugs they eat over there."

Friend of PW: "I know! Can you believe the weird shit they eat? All those insects?"

PW: "I would definitely lose weight if I ever visited Asia. I would never put a bug in my mouth."
How on earth did this myth start? I think bugs are probably on the menu of any country with a large populace that has to fight for proper food rations.

That, and speaking of myths, we all know Americans eat only this:

And Japanese people eat this every day:
Right?

Today's obsession: Napping as much as possible while the cacophony of renovation continues at my pad.
